Wells Gray Community Forest is located in the beautiful North Thompson Valley. The Community Forest is a citizen owned corporation with an Annual Allowable Cut of 34,900 m3, providing local jobs and revenues for the benefit of residents of Wells Gray Country and the District of Clearwater. Our Community Forest focuses on long-term sustainability, environmental stewardship and supporting local industries.
Current Opportunity:
The WGCF Corporation is seeking an experienced, dependable and enthusiastic Forest Professional to fill the position of General Manager. Reporting to the WGCF Corporation Board, the General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of forest management operations including higher levelplanning, development, harvesting, and silviculture. The GM will be overseeing the work of consultants and contractors, and liaising with First Nations, the public and government officials.
The General Manager must have a strong understanding of small tenure operations, and, in particular, the unique opportunities afforded by the Community Forest tenure. This is the forestry you have always dreamed of.
Responsibilities:
Coordination of Full Phase operations for 2 separate licenses (CFA and FL), including higher level planning through to stand tending
Develop and implement operational plans that align with the Corporation’s Strategic Plan, including Forest Stewardship Plan, Management Plan, Communication Plan, Annual Work Plan
Coordinate with other consultants/specialists as required to meet the Community Forests Goals and Objectives
Oversee daily operations including monitoring harvesting operations, road construction, and all reforestation activities
Solicit, negotiate and manage contracts with planning, logging and silviculture contractors as required
Research and access government funding opportunities for Wildfire Mitigation work and intensive silviculture
Prepare, and monitor progress against, the budget
Oversee future WGCF employees and conduct performance evaluations
Implement and enforce WGCF Corporation Policies, protocols and best practices in all forestry operations
Stay informed about new technologies, practices and industry trends
Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required
Maintain accurate records of all forestry activities
Facilitate First Nations, public and stakeholder engagement and consultation
Additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Sciences and Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in good standing is preferred
Technical diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Sciences or related field and Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) will be considered
Minimum of 10 years experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role
Demonstrated leadership, communication and organizational skills
Ability to work in the field in all environments
Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship
Preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to Clearwater or Wells Gray Country
Compensation:
$110-130,000 annual salary, depending on qualifications
