WGCF Society
Roles and Responsibilities
The Society has been created to fulfill three main roles:
A. To promote the economic and social welfare of the residents of the Wells Gray Country (including the District of Clearwater), including providing support for benevolent and charitable enterprises, federations, agencies, and societies engaged in furthering these purposes.
B. To hold the shares of, and receive all benefits from, the shareholdings of the Wells Gray Community Forest Corporation, which manages a Community Forest Licence (the “Community Forest”) in the Wells Gray Country (Thompson Nicola Regional District Electoral Area ‘A’).

C. To distribute funds received through the operations of the Community Forest, or otherwise, as follows:
-
25% to social needs in the Wells Gray Country (including the District of Clearwater), as determined by the directors;
-
50% to capital infrastructure improvements in the Wells Gray Country (including the District of Clearwater), where another party has contributed matching funds;
-
25% to accumulate for larger projects that benefit the Wells Gray Country (including the District of Clearwater), either as a lumpsum contribution or through ongoing payments.
As an official charitable organisation that is the sole shareholder of a for-profit corporation, the Society cannot be directly involved in the direction, management, or operations of the Wells Gray Community Forest Corporation. However, it has the responsibility to ensure that the Corporation remains a viable and profitable operation. This can be achieved by:
A. Recruiting and appointing competent directors who share the Society’s vision.
B. Reviewing the performance of the Corporation and replacing its directors if they do not perform satisfactorily.
