WGCF Society

Governance

The Society is regulated by the Societies Act of British Columbia and operates according to a set of bylaws adopted at the time of its founding. Its membership is composed of seven members: five members at large, selected through an open and transparent application process whenever a vacancy arises; and two representatives—one from the District of Clearwater and one from the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Area “A”—who are appointed annually by their respective entities.

A director is elected to hold office each year and may be reappointed at subsequent annual general meetings of the Society.

The Board is responsible for ensuring high quality governance for both the Wells Gray Community Forest Society (2010) and the Wells Gray Community Forest Corporation. To this end, the Board of the Society, as the shareholder, conducts an annual review of the skills and composition of the Boards to determine current and future needs. Recruitment of new directors and succession planning are carried out in an open and consistent manner to ensure transparency, diversity, and broad community representation.

The work of the Society is guided by its Strategic Plan:  View PDF of strategic plan
